Training sequence

Move from explanation to supervised performance and recorded authorisation.

  1. Define the role: list permitted tasks, prohibited adjustments, escalation points and supervision.
  2. Explain the process: product, pack, metering principle, source, controls, hazards and quality checks.
  3. Demonstrate the task: use the actual configured machine, approved procedure and normal production materials where safe.
  4. Practise under supervision: include normal operation and the foreseeable abnormalities relevant to the role.
  5. Assess competence: observe the complete task and require the person to explain key decisions and limits.
  6. Record and authorise: retain person, task, machine, date, assessor, result, restrictions and refresher trigger.

Abnormal conditions

Teach when to stop and escalate, not only how to restart.

Lost prime or bubbles

Recognise unstable product supply and avoid repeated adjustment that hides the source problem.

Drip or foam

Stop when packs, measurement or working area are no longer acceptable and use the approved response.

Container jam

Do not reach into hazardous movement or defeat guarding; follow the permitted clearing and isolation procedure.

Low air or product

Understand which settings must not be changed to compensate for a utility or source fault.

Quantity drift

Follow the sampling and escalation rule, identify affected packs and involve the authorised role.

Cleaning or part damage

Quarantine incorrect, worn or incompatible parts rather than returning the machine to production.

Handover pack

Give the production team controlled information for the machine they receive.

Who needs training on a liquid filling machine?

Anyone who operates, sets, cleans, supervises, maintains or intervenes in the machine needs training appropriate to that role. A person authorised only to run a recipe does not automatically have competence to calibrate, bypass a fault or enter a guarded area.

What should an operator demonstrate before sign-off?

The operator should complete pre-use checks, start and stop correctly, run the approved format, identify unacceptable packs, respond to permitted alarms, keep the area controlled and escalate conditions outside their authority.

Should filling-machine training include faults?

Yes, where they can be introduced or simulated safely. Training should cover foreseeable abnormal conditions, the correct stop and escalation response, pack segregation and when isolation or competent maintenance is required.

When is refresher training needed?

Use triggers such as a machine or process change, new product or format, revised procedure, extended absence, incident, observed unsafe practice, repeated quality error or evidence that competence has declined.

Can supplier training replace the employer's responsibilities?

No. Supplier training can explain the machine and agreed scope, but the employer must integrate it with site hazards, products, risk assessment, supervision, procedures and ongoing competence management.

What training information should be requested with a filling-machine quotation?

Define roles, number of people, products and formats, training location, language needs, practical tasks, documentation, assessment, handover evidence and any later refresher or maintenance training required.
